Your Guide to Six Pack Abs

I Want Six Pack Abs – How I Got That Six Pack

So you want to know how to get six pack abs. Believe it or not, you don’t need to do a ton of abdominal exercises every day or every week to accomplish this.  Not only are you wasting your time, but you are not going to get the six pack results you are really after till you understand what I am about to tell you.

If you really want to get abs, you need to be focusing your time on bigger exercises which involve compound lifts or multi-joint movements.   Some of these exercises include the following: pull ups, squats, dead lifts, and bench press.  Isolation lifts or single joint movement exercises focus on just one muscle group and will not help you get six pack abs.  These include dumbbell curls, triceps extensions, leg curls, and pectoral flies.  This seems contradictory, but it works because compound lifts burn more calories as well as release more fat-burning and muscle-building hormones, which will bring out the abs faster.

Studies have revealed that intense weight lifting workouts stressing big muscle groups result in an increased resting metabolic rate (which is basically the amount of calories your body needs while you are at rest) for up to 1-2 days following the workout (possibly even longer than 2 days).  A steady tempo cardio workout only elevates your resting metabolic rate for around 1-2 hours subsequent to your workout.  If you are working out by focusing on large muscle groups 3-4 times each week you will be increasing your resting metabolic rate. This means you will burn more calories 24/7. This will put you on the fast track to getting six pack abs. In addition, as mentioned previously, you also get a much better fat-burning and muscle-building hormonal response from your training when you center your workouts mostly on big multi-joint exercises working large portions of the body. By doing all of this and a healthy diet, you will get leaner faster, bringing out those ripped six pack abs. For some excellent detailed workouts as well as some surprising dieting facts and plans, check out The Truth about Abs. This book was a major factor for me in getting the six pack I have today.

One Secret You Need to Know If You Want Six Pack Abs

I remember when I myself was saying, “I want six pack abs” so when I saw The Truth About Abs by Mike Geary I realized it would be a great resource to help me get there.  In fact, one of the secrets he reveals in the book was a key factor in helping me achieve the six pack I have today.  He talks about the overwhelming importance of your diet; this is one of the main reasons that prevent people from getting that nice set of six pack abs.  Aside from having the right mental attitude and goals, your nutrition and dietary habits will be the main reason you will not lose enough body fat to get abs.

It really doesn’t matter how hard you train, you will never get your body fat percentage low enough to get abs if your diet is poor.  For example if you want six pack abs, you could train hard every day for months and still not see results if your eating habits are unhealthy.

He goes on to talk about how even though the people he works with know what they should be eating, they still choose to eat a bunch of junk foods that prevent them from getting six pack abs.  So you are probably asking, “what is the key that will influence me to choose the good healthy foods that will put me on the fast track to get a six pack?”

In The Truth About Abs, Mike Geary speaks from experience about how to get six pack abs and eat healthy.

“I think that personally, the reason that my mind has changed so much over the years to the point now that I actually have no desire at all to eat junk food and even the thought of it disgusts me has to do with how deeply I’ve educated myself on nutrition and what these foods do inside your body. I’m not just talking about basic ideas such as “that junk food will make you fat”. Instead, I’m talking about everything I’ve learned about how certain types of processed junk foods negatively affect the internal cellular processes in your body… everything from messing up organ function, to promoting cancer, increasing inflammation, disrupting your hormonal balance, and stimulating stubborn belly fat stores.” Mike Geary, The Truth About Abs

The reason we have a huge obesity epidemic is because there is such a lack of teaching and educating about how to eat and be healthy, let alone how to get six pack abs.  To learn more about the foods to stay away from and the foods that will help you melt off the fat, check out The Truth about Abs.  IWantSixPackAbs is dedicated to helping inform people so they can be healthy and get six pack abs.

The Truth About How to Get Six Pack Abs

Let’s face it, we all want to get six pack abs or that flat lean stomach, that’s why I created the iwantsixpackabs website.  People go to every extent possible to accomplish this and spend insane amounts of money in this pursuit.  It seems like there is always a new and improved ab roller or belly buster gimmick that is the end all be all to get abs.  People spend many hours a week doing crunches, side bends, and sit-ups.  They wonder why after all this hard work they just can’t seem to get a six pack.

If you really want to get six pack abs stop focusing all your time on ab routines and workouts.  The truth is that most people with any sort of workout history probably have a good set of abs already developed; they are just covered in excess body fat.  If someone tells me, “I want six pack abs” and asks me how to get a nice visible set of abs, I would tell them to focus on reducing their body fat.

Don’t get me wrong there is a certain amount of muscular development that goes into getting six pack abs, but ultimately your body fat percentage is the key.  Generally men need to get below 10-11% body fat to see their abs; at 7-8% they will be really defined.  Most women need to be around 16-19% to get abs that stand out.  This will vary a little bit based on the body fat distribution of the individual person.  If you want six pack abs drop the excess body fat.
